Super Smash Flash is an unofficial online version of the popular Super Smash Bros. Melee game.
The game matches up some of the most famous computer game stars of all time, pitting them against each other in single or two-player mode. There are 13 characters to choose from in Super Smash Flash, including Sonic, Mario, Link, Megaman and Kirby.
There are lots of different game modes in Super Smash Flash, including regular, classic, adventure, target test and multi-man melee.
The object of Super Smash Flash is to knock your opponent out of the arena by wearing down their energy, which you do by jumping or hitting them. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done though, and the fiddly keyboard control system makes it very hard to do battle. Gameplay is also let down by the poor AI of the computer-controlled opponents, who often seems to throw themselves off the edge for no reason.
Super Smash Flash is fairly well presented and the colorful graphics and fun sounds help to recapture some of the magic of the original series. That said, these graphics would look shameful on anything newer than an 8-bit console.
Had the control system been configurable and the computer AI worked properly, Super Smash Flash would've been a fun throwback to the popular console game. As it is though, it's pretty frustrating.
